hey mom and family! it seems like i just wrote you. i cant believe it has already been a week. lots has happened with conference and everything that it all just flew by. oh by the way the shift button doesn’t work again so sorry about that. to answer all your questions mom, transfers are on the 13 of this month. I have no idea when the temple is coming up. it didn’t say anything on our calender that they get to us. the ointment is in a white tube and it says dermalogica on it. and it is about 6 inches long. I don’t have it here with me so I can’t let you know exact details. oh and yes I get dinner appointments with members. There is a lady in the ward named hermana Navas that passes around week long calenders for all the missionaries during relief society. So we usually get a week full of appointments with various members. I have been here so long that we usually have two or three usual people that sign up for us just about every week. The vinhs being one of them. so, dinners are always supplied. Mondays are the only days we decide just to eat at home. it is a hassle to get ready for a DA on mondays, so we just eat our fresh bought groceries. haha. Anyways, it sounds like fun with the neices and nephew at home. poop being thrown everywhere and sydney being potty trained. that is pretty funny with what happened with stella…… sounds like you guys are still in summer going out of town every week. haha.

Life is still going good here in LA. still moving forward. We are working really hard to find people right now. We are basically doing everything we can to build our teaching pool. Door to door knocking is a usual here in the CLAM. There is a standards of excellence that the mission has for every key indicator that we have to do. We have to do 6 hours of Finding a week to be an excellent missionary. so we do at least 6 hours of knocking doors, street contacting, and whatever else to find people. I feel like knocking doors is almost a second nature. when I first got here, knocking doors was very nerve wrecking for me. I didn’t know what to say and people could tell I was nervous. Now, I rarely think twice about knocking doors. It is just something that is uncomfortable at first but then its ok. but anyways that is what we usually do haha.

this week we had one person come to a session of general conference. General conference is at the stake center and the stake center is a two minute walk from our apartment haha. so it was really easy to get there. but anyways the person that came to general conference with us was Alicia. i think last week I was saying she didn’t look very promising but we brought a member over to her lesson last thursday and she wanted to come to church after that. so she came and she attended the baptism that was there as well. she came to the sunday afternoon session. She really liked the baptism and I think she liked conference as well. there was guy in the spanish translation room that was snoring for part of it so hopefully that didn’t ruin her experience. Alicia is about 50 years old from el salvador who we knocked into. she is a pretty normal lady and is basically brand new in learning about Jesus Christ. she was raised Catholic but never went to church or anything so all this religion stuff is new to her. She should progress really well. When you get people to church they usually progress.

Jesus and Elisa didnt come because Jesus had cousins that came into town. So I think they tried watching it but we aren’t exactly sure. Jesus left for Mexico last night to go visit his kids and mom. He doesn’t get back until this saturday. But there is some good news…. so we retaught Elisa about the priesthood authority that our church has that no other church has and it clicked in her head that her baptism was fake and that she needed to get baptized. She also said that she wants her daughter to get baptized. So now we are going to be teaching her 11 year old daughter who we could never get to join in on the lessons. She should be baptized at the end of this month if all goes well. her name is grace.

so not really anyone else that is solid that we are teaching. We ended up giving Maria and David to the English elders so we are no longer teaching them. That was sad because I had been teaching them for a total of 9 weeks. six weeks in july and like three or four recently. I believe they are still doing really good. Other than that we don’t have much else. Our roomates have a baptism this sunday so that is exciting. It was a lady that elder Romrell and i tracted into named Clara. When we split up the investigators, elder mcrae and elder jensen got her. so that is good news as well.

So, I really enjoyed conference. I watched all of them in english besides the last session when I was with Alicia in spanish. It was so good. i now ask myself why I didn’t watch all of them before my mission. I just thought they were boring and I wanted to go sleep or play basketball or something. Now, Conference to me is like waiting to go to disneyland. I get all pumped up for it and everything. I thought all of it was good. After watching conference you know that we have prophets and aposles of God on the earth today. It is a huge blessing to have them in our lives today. The best talk to me was probably President Monson sunday morning. I loved that talk. Anyways it was good. I wish more people came with us because we made these little pass along cards announcing conference this weekend. we passed out so many. basicall everyone we talked to.

So last monday something creepy happened to us while we were doing our pday duties. we met this lady at the Laundromat across the street from our apartment who was an astrologist. i knew who she was because in the clam handbook we get, it explains who they are. They basically are people that believe that the stars tell them their purpose of being on the earth and stuff. so she begins to tell us that she has had a couple quantums which means a couple of experiences where she obtains a ton of knowledge within minutes. she told us that she was intellectually higher than everyone else. she told us that she has spent the last 2 and a half years knocking on every government agency’s door telling them that the world is going to end by a nuclear war the fall of 2010. So she was trying to tell us that this fall was when the world was going to end. So, basically i faked like i was recieving a phone call because this lady was crazy and we left the laundromat with our clothes. well elder Mcrae and Elder jensen still had to go back and get their clothes so they went back and the lady was still there. They told us that she was giving them dirty creepy looks. Anyways they left with their clothes and as they were waiting to cross the street, the lady turns right in front of them and gives them a creepy look. As they were able to cross the street they see her flip a u turn back towards them. They didn’t think anything of it at the time and they went into our apartment which is in the very back of the complex. Elder Gerratt and i weren’t there because we decided to go place basketball but like 15 or 20 minutes after Elder mcrae and elder jensen returned from the Laudromat, that lady pokes her head in our apartment door and says I want to leave some papers for you like you left for me… and then she leaves. It was just like 10 pages of her own research about astrology and how the world was going to end. we didn’t read it but how creepy is that? when i heard that from them i was afraid to go back to the apartment. but luckily we havent seen her since so its all good, so that is the weird story of the week. Really creepy.

well family, I love you all so much. This week will be good. transfers are next wednesday.

love,
Elder Kevin Jones
