Hello family once again:) This week was another good one for you. It sounds like you are back for a while again mom. I am glad you had a good time in Houston. Lots of homeless people there too? You should come to LA. There are plenty here as well. I am glad that Bishop Cobb is doing a great job already. That man is going to make an excellent bishop. Did Bro. Mazzarelli live in LA? He is exactly right. It is pretty hispanic and really not that bad. I think every time I have talked about Gardena I have said different things about who is the minorities and majorities but it basically is 60% hispanic and 35% asian (especially japanese) and the rest are white and black. I think I see it different because all I am working with is the hispanic people. Anyways, Haley is getting her braces off! woo hoo! She is going to look so different when I get home. Everyone will look the same besides her and the babies. When I get home, I am going to make my teeth perfectly straight again. Do not worry mom, I will pay for it and its my fault. I should of worn my retainer. Haha, but that is really exciting for Haley. The boys are going to fight for you. Good job Hillary with the new salon. It sounds like this one will be a good fit for you as well. It seems like you don’t have trouble at all finding new salons. I am excited to get my hair cut from you again. I just got my hair cut last night after planning from Elder McRae and its basically shaved. I just cut it as short as I am allowed. I don’t care to do anything with my hair. I wear a helmet everyday anyways so there is no point… I haven’t heard too much about basketball. I know the suns lost to the Lakers haha and thats about it. Do not worry I am still rooting for my suns whereever I am here. I hear the Miami Heat are really beating on everyone though. Anyways, it sounds like everything is going on good at home.
Well lets go on to the investigators that I am teaching. Good news is that Vicente and Virginia Guerrero are going to be baptized this Sunday. They are so ready. The Lord just put them into our hands and it has been the privilege to help them along the process. They have really good ward support. We basically have had member present lessons with them everytime and they are going to be baptized. Vicente is the funniest guy in the whole world. He is definately an entertainer. Virginia contintues to wow me with her food. She made some delicious picante chicken stuff. It made Elder McRae have stomach issues but it was like gold to my stomach. It was so good. Anyways they are doing really well and all we need to is set a baptismal interview with them sometime this week…… This past Saturday we took Jesus, Elisa, and Grace to the Visitors Center. It went really really well. I think it was a spiritual reboost for Jesus and Elisa to get there divorce papers figured out and get married. They claim that can’t get married until February maybe January because they don’t have enough money. So we are going to have to talk to them about that tonight when we have our lesson. Grace is just being impossible. She knows everything and her only excuse for not getting baptized is that she doesn’t want to get baptized yet. She is kind of a smart alic 11 year old that acts like a teenager. She is cool and funny she just is being impossible right now. We think she is scared or something. We are going to talk to Jesus and Elisa about her tonight as well to see what is really holding her back. Continue to pray for her. She could still get baptized this month….. We finally committed Margarita to the 5th of December for a baptismal date. Since making the date she is wanting to make appointments with us all of a sudden. Before it was so difficult to set appointments with her, but now it is easy. She will get baptized and I am excited. Alicia her friend, still has the marriage issue. I think her seeing Margarita progressing towards baptism will make her want to be baptized too and get married or move out. She likes to cook for us as well. So we have gone to once a week appointments with her because she isn’t progressing. All these people came to church on Sunday so we had 7 there. It has been a good month with people at church. Basically a consistent 7 people have been coming to church every week. It has been really good.
We are also teaching Martin. He is now in Mosiah 24 in the Book of Mormon. He just can’t make it click in his head that he needs to be baptized. I brought up Baptism with him and he just exploded on how he has to honor his parents because it is a commandment and that he will not be baptized in our church. Plus he wont come to church. So we are going to keep an eye on him for the rest of the transfer. He isn’t progressing and is just reading the Book of Mormon. He won’t go to church either. So we are praying that something in the Book of Mormon as he reads will change his mind. We fasted for him too yesterday. This week I went on splits with Elder Little who is a black elder and he was only called english speaking. He is a greenie. Anyways during that whole day he didn’t say anything because he didn’t know spanish. haha. So I basically taught Martin by myself and Jesus and Elisa and all of them. I didn’t mind it because I like to teach but it just didn’t feel the same. haha.
Everything is the same here in Gardena. Although Hermosa Liahona is growing so much that this next Sunday they are going to split the ward. Its crazy. It isn’t near as full as Allen Ranch ward but they are going to split it. It is interesting but I think its a good idea still. I think just about every weekend someone is being baptized in the ward. We have 10 elders in our ward so there is a lot of productivity going on. I will still be in the Hermosa Liahona ward though so that will be good.
Anyways family I don’t know what else to write. My week has been good. I still like the mission and its been really fun. I know the church is true. I can’t believe Christmas is only in a month. Time has flown by. I love you all and I will talk to you next week.
Love,
Elder Kevin Jones
