Hey family! Sounds like it has been a really good weekend. It seems like yesterday since I wrote you. Well I do have some big news. I just got out of an interview with President and I am no longer going to be in Roosevelt. Which is kind of sad. I don’t know the exact boundaries of my new area but I will be going to be in the USC ward. So I am by the school. I am also going to be flush training. The only bad part is that they switched me to english. I was kind of upset about that but I am excited to train and be in a new area. I will still be on bike too. I am going to set some records on bike I think. I will continue to work on my spanish. They stiill allow me to study for an hour a day. I am excited. There are still lots of spanish people up there near USC. So I will still get to work on it. Elder McRae will also be training but he is still in Roosevelt. I am excited. I get a couple of days to pack up my bags instead of one night. So thats the big news!!!
Well sounds like the weekend went well. Everyone came over for dinner to eat. I miss that. I really enjoyed eating with the whole family. Nathan, Lacy, and Sydney got to enjoy polar express. I am not exactly sure what that is. I think it is a train ride. Well it sounds like that Nixon is also growing quite a bit. I can’t wait to see him again. He sounds like a fun kid to be around. Dad got to go to the cabin. That was always a fun trip up there. Who is still left in the Priest Quorum. Everyone is graduating from the priest quorum…. It sounds like your still having a good time sewing mom. How many quilts have you sewn this year? Well I love hearing about all the good news that is going on at home. This next transfer is the call home transfer on Christmas. I am excited for that. Oh I also would like some good gloves for Christmas. My hands are freezing at night now. Its getting pretty chilly.
Well, yesterday Elder McRae and I confirmed Vicente and Virginia Guerrero. It went really well. They are super solid recent converts. They are already excited to get sealed in the temple in a year. We just had a lesson on baptisms for the dead yesterday. They really enjoyed that as well. He is going to be the next bishop and she is going to be the next relief society president. I am convinced. Others that came to church were Christian and Jessica and their kids. I probably haven’t explained too much about them but they are the people that Jesus and Elisa live with in their house. They were a big surprise to see at church. Christian is just a guy that has no job and likes to watch UFC fights all day and Jessica is crazy house mom. They live off the government’s money as well. I don’t know how they support their three kids. Anyways they came and stayed for 2 hours and left. We had actually dropped them officially this week but they decided to come to church. So now we are probably going to teach them… Others that came were Jesus and Elisa and Grace. They enjoyed church as well. Hopefully Grace is going to get baptized soon. We are thinking of changing her date to the 5th of December. She will be baptized before Christmas and I am going to be there. She has been really difficult. Jesus and Elisa are still Jesus and Elisa. They are thinking that January will be the for sure month. Hopefully. They need to get baptized. Law of Chastity is the big one thats difficult to overcome. Alicia and Margarita didn’t make it to church. Margarita just had a granddaughter be born and she had a bunch of family over so she didn’t come and Alicia just plainly said that she didn’t want to come. People are really difficult sometimes. haha. The Hernandez kids didn’t come. They are the ones that Elder McRae and Elder Jensen baptized right before they all left. One of them is turning 8 this Sunday and he is going to get baptized. He counts as a convert baptism because his parents aren’t members. We have been teaching them for a while including the mom. We just had a break through lesson with her yesterday. She will probably get baptized in December sometime. We don’t have an exact date with her. We have lots and lots of solid potentials. Lots of baptisms should be happening in the next couple months. And your right mom, one lucky elder is going to have lots of work. The Roosevelt area is probably the hottest area in the ward right now. Blessings have really came since those visa waiters came in. Well anyways that is probably the bulk of our teaching pool. There is Martin who we haven’t seen since last Tuesday. He is probably still cranking through the Book of Mormon. I wanted to get a picture with him but he didn’t want to take a picture so that was a downer. I hope he continues to progress and gets baptized.
Some things I forgot to mention in my last email. We had zone conference two wednesdays ago and President changed a lot of things. When we got here in the mission, President Blackburn gave us a binder called the Greenie Binder which contained a lot of rules. Supposively the mission was just a pure apostasized mission when President Blackburn came in that he had to write down a ton of rules. Anyways, President Baker just got rid of it all. Which I think is good. He is now trusting all of us to be good missionaries that can follow the missionary purpose and the Spirit to make decisions. We are basically a pure white handbook mission now. All the rules are in there. This is a good move by President in my eyes. Also we have been given the right to text on our cell phones. Which is a huge blessing. Lots of people will only do text and not regular phone calls. So thats a good thing too. He also announced a Book of Mormon challenge. We have to finish before the end of the year starting over. So I quickly finished the Book of Mormon again and started over. I am super excited. I like challenges like this. The mission is going to be really blessed from this. Anyways thats some things I forgot to mention in my last email.
We had our turkey bowl today for Pday. It was fun. Our zone verses another two zones. Each zone played twice. We won one and lost one. It was really fun. After that I had my interview with president in the church building…… Also on Saturday, Elder McRae and I and a few other elders had the opportunity to have dinner with the president because of our clean apartment. We got the clean apartment award. I hope your proud mom:) haha.
Anyways, thats all I can remember from these past 4 days. I love you family. The church is true and I hope you have a good week.
Love,
Elder Kevin Jones
