Hey family. Happy wedding anniversary mom and dad. It is crazy that it has been 29 years for you two. Almost thirty! That is amazing. You don’t see that with anybody out here in LA. Most of the people cohabitate or are prostitutes. I am so thankful for the Gospel that stands tall in the midst of all these law of chastity issues. So happy anniversary. I thought about you two on the 5th of march. I hope the anniversary went well. What movie did you see. I probably have seen the billboard for it. haha…. Happy birthday to Nixon this week. Isn’t it Mitchell’s as well? I feel bad for Big H. I did think it was funny that he said at least the Suns won. I can totally picture him saying that. haha I miss Big H and I know I forgot to get the rock before my mission. I am glad that Marty Schreiber is getting better. I cannot believe his experience! He saw a white light? Did he see anything else? Congratulations to Kaitlin Gray. New York would be an awesome mission. If I wasn’t here in LA on a mission, my next choice in the states would be New York. Thats awesome. It sounds exciting. It sounds like Tanner Green is doing pretty good on his mission as well. He is a good kid. Wes Jones has President Hinckly’s son as his mission president? That is way cool. Oh and that reminded me, we got a change in our mission presidency. We still have President Baker of course as our mission president but his counselor that got released is going to be Brett LeSueurs mission president this summer in Rosario Argentina. His name is President Guilianni. He is awesome. He will be great and Brett will love him. Anyways, thanks for the uplifting letter. Thanks for fasting for our investigators.
Well this week was pretty much the same again. We still have Claudia and Kevin going strong for the 20th. It should be a really good day. Kevin and his little cousin BJ were the only ones that came to church this week. Rosa and Claudia went and sold some of the merchandise that Rosa makes. She makes some gothic clothes or something. She is an interesting person. They told us that they felt terrible for missing church. They said that selling that stuff wasn’t worth their time. They didn’t sell anything. We ended up dropping by their home last night to teach them about the Sabbath Day. It was really good. They understood the importance of going to church even better. They felt bad for working on Sunday. Claudia is more normal than Rosa. Rosa is interesting. She really wants to be baptized but she can’t because she still needs to be divorced and then she has to marry the man that she is living with. So she will be a long process. Claudia though is looking very strong for the 20th. We are excited for her.
Kevin is awesome as well. He has really shocked Elder Lee and I. He really is changing. This past Saturday night, he told us that he was so bored and so he wanted to do something. So he heard about a couple parties going on and fell into the temptation and called his cousin to come pick him up. Well after he made the call, he prayed and asked God to help him out with the temptation. He ended up falling asleep on his bed waiting for his cousin to pick him up. haha. So, he took it as an answer to prayer which it was. He is doing really good. He loves going to church and meeting everyone there. We taught him the Word of wisdom and the law of chastity this week and it was really funny. We told him that he couldn’t drink tea so he pauses and looks at us and yells “Gentleman! I drink tea with my grandma every night! Are you kidding me?” we laughed and said that God doesn’t want him to. So we invited him to stop and he committed to not drinking tea anymore. It was a miracle. He is doing really good. He has basically quit everything in the book. He is a lot happier. He use to be a drug dealer and then he almost lost his life so he quit that. He is only 22 years old and he has been through a lot. He is really ready for the 20th for baptism….. We found out that his 12 year old cousin has read the first 84 pages of the Book of Mormon since we started teaching Kevin. We have never taught him anything and we had no idea that he was reading that much. So we are going to teach him as well. His name is BJ. The Lord blessed us with little BJ. He is way good. We just have one conflict with him. He doesn’t fit in with the USC ward but Kevin loves the USC ward. So we might have to switch him to the Adams ward. We might have to switch both to the Adams ward. Which will be tough. Kevin fits in with the USC ward so well so we will see what they decide. We are going to continue moving Kevin forward in the USC ward and see if BJ is willing to go to Adams ward. Hopefully all will go well.
Everyone else didn’t come to church. We teach a lot of new people every day but its difficult to find the elect. This is how it usually goes. We teach a person and set up another appointment and then we come to our next appointment and they aren’t their or they are too busy for us to come in and teach them. We are trying to find more people to teach but it is very difficult. We find people that will listen to us but will never be their the following appointment. Its tough. I need work for my spanish. I am losing what I already have and I am feeling like a beginner again. I want to be in a spanish area again. I am pretty sure they are going to split Elder Lee and I up because we have been together for three transfers. So one of us will leave. I just hope if I do leave that I will go spanish speaking again. I love this area though so if I did stay it wouldn’t bother me at all.
Nothing else happened. I feel like I am going through a tired stage again. I think you are more tired when you have a car than when you have a bike. I am thinking about riding a bike again whenever I can. I have been going on lots of splits lately. I am going on splits tomorrow in downtown. I am excited. I like seeing other people’s areas and how they work. It teaches me a lot. I use to not like splits at all but since being a district leader I have learned to like them better.
Anyways, all is going well. I love you family. Please ask questions. I feel like I repeat myself every week. haha. I hope everything is good this week for you.
Love,
Elder Kevin Jones
