Helllloooo family! How is everyone doing after the beach? I feel like I missed out on a ton. Geez. You went to the beach 4 times? I would have been in the water the whole time with Mitchell. It sounds like he likes it more than anyone else in the family. Sorry he got sunburned. I probably would have burned as well. I get sunburned easily. Especially on my face. I have to put on sunscreen everyday before I leave and I still get a red face. I wish I was there with you all. It sounded like you had a ton of fun. Since I wasn’t there, who slept on the hide-a-bed? haha. I would have loved to play rook and carumba and hearts. I miss playing card games with the family. I cannot wait until next year so I can go with the family. I am glad that you all had fun in San Clemente….. Ha boob? That is a really funny word to call monsoon. Monsoon season is crazy. I forgot that Arizona has monsoons. The chairs and umbrella fell into the pool like usual? Sounds like it is so much fun haha….. Well I am completely better now. It lasted for a while but nothing is wrong with me now…… I think. I did receive the pants but I haven’t had the opportunity to try them on yet. I will as soon as I get the chance. I am just really fat I guess. haha. Well family keep me posted on everything. Let me know how everything is going.
This week was a little crazy… I went on splits with Elder Gilbert who is the assistant to the President. He is awesome. He was in my district earlier in my mission and we have gotten along really well. He taught me a lot. I think the hardest thing to do as a missionary with finding is just talking to everyone. He brings you out of your comfort zone. That is something that I am really working on right now. I am getting better at it. Anyways, at 1:30 in the morning I get a phone call from President that he needed us to meet him at one of the elder’s apartments in our zone. So I ended up going on splits with an elder named Elder Evans for three days in his area which is the Torrance/ Wilmington area. The cool thing was that I got to speak spanish but… I am rusty. It has been a while since I taught people in spanish. I feel like I need to start over again. I am terrible. I can still understand mostly all of it but I could not spit out words. They were caught on my tongue. It was fun. I enjoyed working in spanish and getting the practice with it. Nothing happened with the missionaries but something happened at the apartment complex that had to split them up for a few days. The last two nights they spent the night at our apartment while we waited for further instruction on where we needed to move them. Elder Evans and Elder Saylor are super funny. I would definitely hang out with them after the mission. It was a good time with them this past week. This morning from 7 to now we moved them from their old apartment and put them in another apartment. It has taken most of our day but its ok, we still have time to do other things…… We also had interviews with President Baker as a zone on Saturday. We had to write down a goal for the month of June and in the interview we reviewed that goal. My goal was to write in my journal every day for the month of June. I did ok. I wrote in it about half the time. I am getting better at it though. I have been terrible with writing in my journal. I am not getting in a better habit of writing in my journal. I know the importance of it. It will be cool to look back on it and read about my mission….. The fourth of July was crazy. The whole night, fireworks were just going off. After we planned we put our couch on our balcony and watched all of the neighbors attempt to shoot off fireworks. It was pretty fun.
Yesterday at church was the best that I have seen since I have been here in San Pedro. We had 6 people at church this week. T, K, A, R, Ad, and M. Ad and M are new investigators that we have that came to church and loved it. M is an 86 year old woman and Ad is her daughter who is in her 60s. We found them when I was on exchanges with Elder Gilbert on Wednesday. We were just walking on the street towards T and K’s house when we just initiated a hello to Ad and M in their front yard. As soon as we opened our mouths, they told us, “come in! come in! we want you to pray for us.” So we walked in and they explained their situation with Ad’s granddaughter who was taken by Child Security or something like that and they want adoption to be prevented so they asked us to pray for them. So we prayed for them and afterwards explained what we do as missionaries and set up a return appointment because we had an appointment already. They accepted. So we went back to their house and Ad told us that she thinks that we are the closest church to the truth because she saw it in a dream or something. It was really cool. They tend to talk a lot so we have a lesson plan for tonight to set the stage and invite them to be baptized. I honestly think they will be baptized. They are very nice people and loved church and loved the members. They are excited to go back this Sunday. We just need to explain everything to them and state our purpose. It was a miracle that we found them. I am super excited to see their progression…. T, K, and A are doing well. They came to church as a family and stayed all three hours. That is three weeks in a row. His situation is still the same. It sounds more difficult than it looked. The immigration attorney has realized that it is a tougher situation than it looks and he may not be able to do much. The only option right now is for T to go to Mexico and to get registered there and then come back, and that is super hard to do. It is really dangerous for him to do that. It is difficult to come back. Hopefully all will be well. We are still praying for them….. R is doing great. She basically just needs to get married and then she can be baptized. Right now we have a tentative date for the 28th of August but we are hoping they will get married sooner. We have a visitor center trip planned with them this Thursday. It should be awesome. We are going to show them the temple and then watch a movie on families. It will be really really good. We are excited for her because she really loves church and loves the people there. So we are excited for that one as well.
D is still missing. He is very difficult to contact. I. is the same story. It is tough to contact him as well. Right now the people that came to church are the people we are working with. They have the most potential. Please continue to pray for them
Have you made a mormon.org profile yet? YOU NEED TO DO IT! It is so good for the church. It helps out with missionary work like crazy. We receive so many referrals off of mormon.org because of everyone’s profiles. So please make a profile because it is the easiest missionary work you can do. If you look on there, Kaitlin Gray has one. I want to see my family on there. We aren’t allowed to make them as missionaries for some reason. There are missionaries on there but they broke the rules. You aren’t allowed to do it as a missionary. I will do it when I go home but you need to do it. Will you make a mormon.org profile this week???…. Good. haha.
The church is true. I love the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I love the Atonement and I am so grateful for it in my life. I love being a missionary. I get to see miracles everyday. Sometimes they are small and sometimes they are big like Ad and M. The Book of Mormon is true and Joseph Smith is a prophet of God. I love this Gospel because it brings me perfect happiness. Thank you family for all of your support and I will talk to you next week!
Love,
Elder Kevin Jones
